No it doesn’t… At least not around 3min.30 in this clip.
I saw this on Jake’s blog and wanted to pass it along here because it’s a good example of deluding yourself, big time. Now I know how you do this trick with a (less than razor sharp) weapon and it looked to me like he was doing it that way. But a well sharpened blade still cuts into you if you snap it down. If it’s true that this guy did it before, then he probably managed to convince himself his “chi” (or whatever) protects him from a sharpened sword.
In a way, it ties into the “MMA sucks, traditional arts suck more” post I did a few days ago: Whatever you end up convincing yourself of, that’s what you’ll think is true. You may truly believe your MMA or TMA is the best system ever but that doesn’t mean you’re right. A lot of that debate seems to be done with arguments people deluded themselves into believing. At least, that’s how it seems to me if I look at some of the idiotic lines of thoughts by both sides.
For the record, I’m not claiming any intellectual superiority here; the joke would definitely be on me if I did. Just pointing out what I’m seeing. Speaking of which, I’ll do a second part on that whole argument because, from the mail I’ve received, some people seem to think I hate MMA. Not at all. So in the second part, I’ll rip into TMAs a bit. Just to be fair. :-)
Before I forget: The competition to win the “Savate Street Kicking” DVD closes on Sunday. So if you want to enter (it’s free), don’t delay and follow the instructions here.
UPDATE: Here’s part 2 of this post on chi tricks.
