Nieky Holzken vs. L’houcine Ouzgni didn’t seem like all that great of a match up to me at first. Until I saw the fight… Take a look:
Holzken gets dominated from the get go. Ouzgni uses his reach very well and he has that “stiff” way of striking many tall and lean fighters have. So everything he does hurts, even if it doesn’t look like he’s trying all that hard.
Holzken’s biggest mistake is to just walk forward and straight into everything L’houcine throws. As is, that’s a risky strategy but against a guy who has superior reach, it’s asking for trouble. Ouzgni handles it real well, staying slightly outside of Nieky’s punching range and waiting for opportunities to counter. He only needs one clear entry after double blocking the kick to the body to get inside and put Holzken on the canvas for the first time.
After the 8-count, he stays calm and collected while he goes for the finish. I especially liked the feint with the right knee to land a right punch. Good thinking.
And of course, the jumping knee causing the knock out is a thing of beauty. Well done.
