Next month, I’ll shoot the next part of my Combat Sanshou series. It’ll focus on the two main strategies and tactics I teach for the system. One of the things I will add to this new video is a couple scenarios. I have several in mind but wanted to ask you guys first:
Which type of attack would you like to see me cover in the new video? What kind of scenario do you find most interesting for an instructional video?
Just leave a comment here on this post and I’ll consider it. Of course, “Fight 27 ninjas!” type scenarios will be ignored. :-)
Thanks.

I’d like to see this situation:
Individual approaches you to ask for money as his buddy approaches you from behind.
Once the two are in position they begin the assault/mugging.
Also would you be willing to consider fighting 26 Ninjas?
Train Hard,
Josh Skinner

Cool, thanks. Tha twas one of the possibilities I was already playing with. It’ll depend on having an extra meat puppet, ehm… I’mean, an extra demo partner during the shoot. :-)
And I draw the line at 25 ninjas. Anything more is just silly.

Now that’s a real good news! Consider that I’m still training in combat sanshou using your instructional vids you made in 2006. In other words Wim, You are my “virtual master” ;)
Now about the scenarios, I’ve a lot in my mind too, but I’ll post two of the most essentials for me:
1 – It’ll be great to see the efficiency of combat sanshou in a situation where you find yourself to fight against a tall man heavier than you and skilled in some kind of martial art like ju jitsu or muai thai, just cause someone tolds me that combat sanshou will be unuseful if you are in that situation. I want to show them that is not true, I believe combat sanshou is the ultimate self-defence style and want to prove them.
2 – Another good scenario can be to do some fight scene on the beach, cause in real life you can have trouble in unexpected situation. Also on the beach it’s more difficult to maintain the balance and move faster, so it can emphasize the close range combat and show how combat sanshou it’s excellent in that situation! (I remember one of your vid on youtube where you show us your great skills in maintaining balance on an ice surface while fighting… very impressive!)
Thank you Wim for this opportunity you give to us!

Glad to hear you’re using the videos for training Daniele. If you enjoyed those, you’ll like what’s coming next. :-)
1) I don’t believe there is such a thing as an ultimate system; I believe in people, not systems. Re. A heavier man, it’ll depend on my demo partner. It’s not as easy as you might think, finding a good demo partner for a video shoot. A lot of factors are involved. But if I can find one with training in those style, I’ll see if we can whip something up. Thanks.
2) The beach would be fun but the Paladin Press studios are in Colorado. No beach in sight there. :-)

:-) thanks for considering one of my proposition… about the other maybe I can contact Paladin press and ask to make some shoots here in Tuscany (italy). we have beautiful beaches here…if you plan to go on holiday this summer, I advise you to come here and try our hospitality! That will be cool! :-)
Wim says
Ha, I doubt they’ll go for it. It’d be pretty expensive to fly in all the crew and equipment. :-)
I was in Tuscany a few years ago. Very beautiful place indeed.

The combat Sanshou sounds pretty cool.
I am really in need of some techniques to fend of a swarm of ninja,s.
